Terrified dog rescued from trench

Gimli Animal Shelter
Sunday September 26, 2004

Interlake Spectator — A dog buried in a collapsed earthen trench was rescued by Gimli animal control officer Rene Granger Sept. 15.
Granger received an early-morning call from East Interlake RCMP about a dog stuck in a trench on a property on PR 229, west of Hwy. 8.
The property owner found the dog lodged at the bottom of a 12-ft. trench that he had dug the night before.
The trench walls had partially collapsed leaving, the dog partly buried and unable to free him self, Granger explains in a release.
Granger, with the assistance of the property owner, was able to free the terrified animal.
The mud-soaked dog was brought to Gimli Veterinary Services with minor injuries where he was treated and given a bath.
After being missing for two days, the dog was reunited with its owners.
In lieu of fines, the family donated a bag of high quality dog food to the Gimli Animal Shelter.
The shelter, which is located at Gimli Industrial Park, is always looking for volunteers, says Granger. Its volunteer board asks that anyone with a little spare time can make a world of difference as dogs wait for adoption or reunion with their families.
