Dog walks good for all involved

Dear Editor:
Friday January 14, 2005

Interlake Spectator — Nearly a year ago now, I went to the dogs. Gimli Animal Shelter dogs that is.
When our own little dog died some time ago it was so sad I thought I never wanted to go through that again.
Shelter dogs seemed to be the answer. Now nearly every day I am there for a dog fix. They love me and it is mutual but because there are so many it’s like a big family.
They all need so much attention you really do not get attached to only one.
The real high is when they go to a new good home as most of them do ... and you helped to make it happen.
Most dogs come to us in pretty poor shape mental and physical. Our job is to give them first T. L. C. Then exercise and maybe then training.
I got a few of the big dogs trained to pull me on a dog scooter I made from a 10-speed bike. Another story....
The real surprise came when I went for a check-up. Tests said I was much better than last year. Even lost six pounds.
Can it be the fountain of youth that is the animal shelter?
