The Gimli Humane Society

Hi, I saw your request for cash donations on your website. Sorry, it is not much, but I hope it helps. Please send a tax reciept. Thank you! Jackie.

We adopted PRECIOUS on April 10th, 2010 and are totally in love with her. She is the little pomeranian mix that was found in Gimli. She is only 10 pounds and is now the apple of or eye. She is fully trained already and is a real cuddly little thing. We had said that we would not get another dog after our Bijou died but after one and a half years of no dog, we decided that we couldn't live without one. What a great decision we made. Mr Granger is my nephew and he found just the right dog for us. Thanks Rene. We love you. Yvonne

A dog named Milton A scraggy poodle, with long scruffy hair obscuring his vision and bum, found under a float at the Canada day parade. Forlorn, abandoned, and so threatened he’d offer to bite anyone who came too close. We nick-named him Mr. Crabby. He spent months in the Gimli Humane Society shelter. He thought he was SO big that he challenged every dog, barked, and caused chaos and havoc. The Vet even had a “Vicious dog” label on his folder. He was miserable. Then he came into our home, as a foster dog. No one would adopt him. Milton also has a Dad; Ed. He loved him so much but could not keep him for long because his Landlady does not permit dogs. Ed has a cottage and occasionally takes Milton for weekends and holidays. To see them greet is heartwarming. The little man dances and jumps up on Ed’s legs. He is delighted to see him. When he returns, he greets Heather in the same way.. Then, we discovered Milton had rotten teeth that had to be removed. No wonder he was irritable and crabby. After he came home from the doggy dentist, completely toothless, he was a changed dog. He hardly ever snaps, but gums on occasion, if he feels inclined. He is mostly gentle, sweet, and loving. Though he is still leary of strangers. He greets everyone he knows at the door with his little dances. He has gained a lot of friends. Heather even takes him to Nova Scotia with her, in his carry-on bag with bone shaped windows. Her family loves him too. Her sister’s Staffie, Amy, is his best friend. Milton is now the sweetest little man ever. This is what love will do to a dog. And good dentistry. Thanks to the love of Ed and Heather, this little fellow really came into his own. It’s a wonder to see. He cuddles up to me, my little friend. I love him dearly. He loves me too, and all who visit. And now he dances for everyone!

Hello there. We just wanted to let you know that we love otto and he is a wonderful dog. Very well behaved and he seems to really enjoy the wide open spaces and yet does not leave the yard. It is early so we will watch him carefully for a while yet but I don't see a problem with him running away. Thank you again for giving us a wonderful pet. Sincerely Erica and family. I have attached a few pictures. Thank you again!

We adopted Lady 2 weeks ago and we just wanted to send a quick update on how Lady, now named Lucy is doing. She is doing quite well and seems to be enjoying her new home. She loves being outside and enjoys playing fetch. She's getting along well with our cat and never misses a chance to smother his face with kisses. Lucy has been learning tricks in order to get treats and is doing very well. She seems like such a lovable, sweet dog we can't imagine why anyone wouldn't want her. Thanks again and best regards,

Hi we adopted Jesse a couple of weeks ago, just wanted to let you know that he has settled in really well, he really is a special, he is so easy going and well behaved, he loves going for rides in the truck and loves cuddles, i'm pretty sure he misses dingo, but he has made a friend next door. lisa and Jesse

since she has come to live with us she is very happy. the first 24 hours she hid in my room. now she plays and purrs all the time. we are so happy to have her. thank you Ethan

I also wanted to pass along a thank you for Monkey – from the day we brought her home she has been a fabulous addition to our family – we could tell very quickly that she was very well cared for at your shelter, as she has just been completely and totally comfortable around us. Having owned several cats over the years it’s easy to tell when a cat has been taken care of. Thank you for giving us such a great new family member. Keely
Hi, Boo is settling in quite nicely and it is as if she has always been here. She enjoys sleeping at the foot of our bed (although prefers to sleep on top of me with her head on my husband). She plays fetch with her ball and stuffed moose, and shakes her rope toy. She has built a snow fort with our girls, and enjoys going for her daily walks, walking proudly with her tail in the air. This morning she met some more neighbors and discovered the rabbit population in the neighborhood (yesterday she almost caught a squirrel). She is quite a clumsy moose with her lampshade on her head and we are all looking forward to the end of it - what did the vet say was the cause of the hot spot? Is she prone to them? She has even made aquaintances with one of our cats, sniffing nose to nose a few times. The other cat has yet to come off of our one daughters loft bed. She is definitely our family's dog, as she makes her rounds through the house, checking up on us all. I will keep in touch, giving you updates on her. We were very excited to check your web site yesterday and see on Boo's profile that it says that she has been adopted. We are also telling all of our friends about how wonderful the dogs are that you have, so that if they are interested, they can come out there. Thank you! Sharon

Good morning. I don’t know if Rene is still there but wanted you to know about a great dog that I adopted several years ago. You will no doubt remember Scotty- a mature, three legged rough collie. He is still with us, though is becoming a little frail with his advanced age. I wanted to share an extraordinary story about him. Last summer our property in Teulon had a most unexpected visitor: a very large black bear!(Over a decade in that home and this was our first bear) All three of our yard dogs were out front when the bear wandered into the yard. The shepherd/Pyrenees disappeared (I think bear may have swiped her), the bullmastiff ignored the intruder, but the three-legged elderly collie treed the bruin and sat watch- did not allow the bear down for several hours(We wanted the bear to remember his visit to this yard as an unpleasant one). My husband kept Scotty company (armed in case there was trouble) and that old dog never left his post. He would hop over for a drink of water from time to time but if that bear moved so much as a hair, Scotty was right back under the tree. We finally had to drag Scotty into the house so the bear could leave. What a guy! Just wanted you to know…. Scotty is quite the memorable dog. Linda
